  5. The IRIX 6.5 Applications CD, May 2001, is a companion to IRIX 6.5.12.
  6. This CD contains the IRIX Desktop and various desktop applications.  It 
  7. replaces all previous IRIX 6.5 Applications CDs (June 1998 through February
  8. 2001).

  10. Application upgrades shipped with IRIX release are either Full images or 
  11. Overlays.  Updates to Full images are found on the Applications CD whereas 
  12. updated Overlays are found on the IRIX 6.5.12 Overlays, May 2001 CD. Additional
  13. applications can be found on the Base IRIX 6.5.12 CDs. To install the new 
  14. versions of Overlay applications you must install IRIX 6.5.12.  
  15.  
  16. IMPORTANT 6.5.12 Apps CD NOTE:
  17. Because the .related_dists file has been removed from the IRIX
  18. 6.5.12 Apps CD distribution, users may not be aware of the
  19. /CDROM/dist/dev and /CDROM/dist/extras directories.  To access 
  20. these use the open option in Software Manager.

  43. Other Changes
  44. -------------
  45.   * Two Isogon products, Gradient Technologies, Internet Gateway 
  46.     Execution Environment (CRK) 4.0.1 CRK and Gradient Technologies, 
  47.     Internet Gateway Execution Environment 4.0.1 ARK have been 
  48.     removed from the IRIX Applications CD.  Customers interested
  49.     in updates to these products should contact Isogon directly.
  50.   * Netscape FastTrack Server has also been removed from the IRIX
  51.     Applications CD.  This product's functionality has been superseded
  52.     by SGI Web Server based on Apache.  Customers with previous versions of 
  53.     Netscape FastTrack Server from 6.5 and above can continue to 
  54.     use the product.  
  55.     CAVEAT for customers who plan to use previously released 
  56.     versions of Netscape FastTrack Personal Server:
  57.     Netscape's FastTrack Personal Server on this CD will upgrade 
  58.     and replace the original OutBox Webserver or previous versions 
  59.     of Netscape FastTrack server.  Netscape Admin server is included 
  60.     in the Netscape FastTrack 3.03 product. You will not need to 
  61.     select the Netscape Admin server for installation. Netscape 
  62.     FastTrack will work with OutBox and needs no special configuration.

  64. Important Notes About the Products
  65. ----------------------------------
  66. Nedit
  67. The IRIX released version of NEdit (The Nirvana Editor) has been updated from 
  68. 4.0.3 to 5.1.1.  Version 5.1.1 of NEdit features significant extensions to 
  69. the regular expression syntax, an improved international character set input, 
  70. new macro subroutines, improved syntax highlighting for several programming 
  71. languages, and a host of other features. As such, NEDit is a very 
  72. programmer-friendly GUI style text editor.
  73.  
  74. Netscape Communicator Client
  75. Netscape Communicator Client 4.76 is part of the default distribution
  76. on this CD. Customers who only use the browser functionality (and
  77. not the email, newsgroups, etc.) may prefer to install the Netscape
  78. Navigator Client (netscape_lite) 4.76. From Software Manager, open 
  79. /CDROM/dist/extras to install this product.  
  80.  
  81. Beginning with Netscape 4.76 the default browser is compiled N32 so 
  82. existing Third party Netscape plugins will not work with the new N32 
  83. browser. Several plugins do exist in N32 versions.  Depending on 
  84. which plugins you depend on you may want to install the O32 version 
  85. of the browser.  These are in non-default installed subsystems of 
  86. netscape and netscape_lite.

  88. Release Notes
  89. -------------
  90. If you choose to read the release notes for products before installing 
  91. new products, you can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager.  
  92. From the desktop Toolchest choose System, then Software Manager.  This
  93. will bring up the Software Manager window.  Choose to Customize Installation
  94. but typing /CDROM/dist into the Available Software box.  A list of products 
  95. available for installation will come up.  If the product name is highlighted 
  96. (similar to an HTML link) then there are Release Notes available.  Simply click on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
